Heritage Lottery Fund awards £7600 to Herefordshire Country Fair to mark First World War Centenary

The Committee of the Herefordshire Country Fair is delighted to announce that is has been awarded a £7600 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards staging a WW1 commemoration at this year’s Fair.

Awarded through HLF’s First World War Then and Now programme, the funds will allow the event to commemorate the role of the county in raising a yeomanry (and paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the conflict) while telling the story of the impact of the First World War on the rural community.

A spokesman for The Herefordshire Country Fair said, “This is a great addition to our usual program. Our policy of free entry to children will hopefully allow our young generation to learn about the hardships of the war and appreciate the sacrifice that was made by soldier and horse alike. This vivid display will educate and entertain in equal measure and is a unique opportunity for everybody in the Three Counties and the Welsh Marches to view cavalry and tanks live and to ask questions from those that know the answers.

We are indebted to The Heritage Lottery Fund for providing the grant that made this all possible and hope that the anticipated increased gate will further our charitable aims and add to our already healthy charitable trust fund to benefit the people of Herefordshire.”
